In the vintage township of Santa Ynez (population 4,418), it’s sometimes hard to tell if it’s 2022 or 1884 with it’s period style old Western store fronts housing shops, saloons, feed stores and random horses hitched to posts. However, this rather sophisticated cowboy town also boasts plenty of conveniences for modern-day trail riders with plenty of things to do in Santa Ynez, California.

Santa Ynez Real Estate

With so few available properties and so many being over 2 million dollars it can be both daunting and exciting to find the ideal home for you. Jeanne can translate your dream into reality with her knowledge of local sellers and available or even off-market properties. She has a talent for translating your vision into the purchase of the residence you have always hoped to have.

As a whole, the Santa Ynez Valley is known for its multitude of wineries. But each community of this valley has its unique character. Santa Ynez, for its part, is Cowboy Town, complete with building facades that are straight out of scenes from the Old West.

The Township of Santa Ynez may have a rural vibe given the visual throwbacks to the pioneering days but its population of nearly 5,000 is treated to modern conveniences, as well as quality education.

REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

This township’s unique character and the abundance of wineries and outdoor recreation have opened up the opportunity for investing in homes that can be turned into vacation or short-term rentals. For such cases, Santa Barbara County has laid down several rules to abide by.

For example, a homeowner or a long-term tenant (known as a homestay) can rent out up to three rooms of their home provided that they also live there. For larger properties, owners can have rooms and specific venues in these said properties rented out to guests.

Note that income from these rentals is constant and usually comes close to triple of what normal long-term rentals would bring. To learn more, check the Santa Barbara Planning and Development page for details.

PLACES OF NOTE

For a taste of the Old West at sundown, the Maverick Saloon is the place to be. Known as the last of four taverns opened around 60 years ago, this western-style bar is still going strong in the Santa Ynez Valley. On weekends, expect an exciting lineup of activities from square dancing to live music from local bands. Also, don’t forget to look up to the ceiling when you visit – you’ll find signed dollar bills pasted onto it.

Another interesting venue to visit in Santa Ynez is the ever-growing Chumash Casino Resort. Amenities here include a AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel, a spa, a bar, and its centerpiece – a casino filled with as many as 2,300 slot machines and other tables and rooms for games of chance. Interestingly, a portion of the resort’s profits goes to the Ynez Band of Chumash Indians as long as their elders are still alive.

Among locals, especially ranch owners, the Santa Ynez Feed & Milling Co. is a well-loved town staple. A family-owned business that has been around since 1963, this establishment has been supplying most ranches in the area with hay, feed, seed, and equipment.
